(21 March 2016) “One of the greatest protagonists of 20th century art, design and graphics,” Bruno Munari (Milan, October 24, 1907 – Milan, 30 September 1998) says a sculptor, an illustrator, a graphic designer, and a writer. ““Sculture da viaggio”, “macchine inutili”, “forchette parlanti” and “libri illeggibili” are just some of the most amazing and distinctive objects stemming from Munari’s creativity. And now, the versatile Milanese artist is at the center of an initiative promoted by the Italian Cultural Institute of Vilnius (Universiteto g. 4). “Communicating visually,” scheduled for April 8 (at 4:30pm), answers questions like: What is graphics? Who are designers? How does creative logic work? Mario Di Pasquale (web designer) and Eros Banchellini (graphic designer) will answer these and more questions during the conference dedicated to one of the greatest protagonists of the 20th century. During the meeting, the two will discuss “Design and visual communication” (Laterza, Bari, 1968), one of the most famous and important books by Munari, and will present a series of educational exercises studied by Munari over the course of his lectures. Bruno Munari’s talent has been linked to some of the most important companies in Italy, such as Olivetti, La Rinascente, Pirelli, Campari. For them, Munari made sketches, studies, drawings, posters, advertising and exhibition projects. Publishers like Bompiani, Rizzoli, Zanichelli, Editori Riuniti and Corraini also turned to his talents for illustrations and much more. (Red)
