(21 March 2016) Julia Victoria Rodriguez Suarez and Kristi Nika, from Madrid and Athens respectively, are the two Italian language high school students who won first prize (in the junior and senior categories) in the International Competition of the Italian language Olympics. The Scuola Ufficiali Carabinieri in via Aurelia in Rome hosted, with the support of the High Patronage of the Italian Presidency, the 6th edition of the Italian Olympics. The competition is promoted by the Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Accademia della Crusca and the Associazione per la Storia della Lingua Italiana. Thanks to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the initiative has been extended to all Italian schools and classes abroad. Julia Victoria and Krist competed in the final round against Livia Marella from the “Roma” Italian school in Alger, and Piero Alberti from the European School of Frankfurt. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs awarded three prize trips to the winners. The bilingual section of the Sáru high school of Bratislava, the Italian-Czech section of the Ústavní high school in Prague and the Italian State School in Madrid, in collaboration with their respective diplomatic network – Embassies, Consulates and Italian Cultural Institutes – will host this October, the winners. The finals took place between Thursday and Saturday 84 students from Italy and Italian structures abroad. More than 44.000 students had enrolled in the first stages, but only those who demonstrated the best writing, synthesis, text analysis, and idiom skills made it on the podium. (red)
