Beijing – For some years now, the Ministry of Culture has launched a series of collaborative projects in the promotion of cultural heritage at the international level with strategically relevant countries. In China, the Ministry is sponsoring an ongoing series of initiatives, including the project “Spazio Italia” inside the National Museum of China in Tiananmen Square, Beijing, which is perhaps the most significant activity promoted so far, and is a reference point at international level. The project is part of the MoU on the Partnership for the Promotion of Cultural Heritage between the Italian Ministry and the State Administration for Cultural Heritage of the Chinese People’s Republic, which provides strong impetus to the cooperation between Chinese and Italian museums. In particular, the Agreement commits both Italy and China to the implementation, on a reciprocal basis, of an exclusive museum space for the promotion of Chinese culture in Italy and Italian culture in China. The chosen museums are the National Museum of Palazzo Venezia in Rome and the National Museum of China in Tiananmen Square where on 20 October 2016 will open the exhibition “Glory of Light and Color. Four centuries of paintings in Venice.” The general concept behind the bilateral project is the idea of showcasing contexts, works of art and artists from the major artistic movements that characterize the Italian or Chinese culture through the establishment of a series of exhibition projects.
