(May 10, 2016) Rendez vous on May 13th at the Italian Cultural Institute in Sydney with the second round of “Viva Rossini!” event 2016. This year it will include five films made, produced and made available by the Rossini Opera Festival (ROF) in Pesaro. After last year’s success the Italian Cultural Institute has renewed its collaboration with the Rossini festival which, since 1980, has helped to spread the works of the Italian composer, even those less known and underrepresented. After the Barber of Seville, “Viva Rossini” 2016 continues on Friday at 14:30 with Ciro in Babilonia, a sacred action in two acts by Rossini with a libretto by Francesco Aventi. The work was performed for the first time at the Teatro Comunale of Ferrara in 1812 during Lent. The works “Signor Bruschino” and “Aureliano in Palmira” will also be presented; the latter being particularly famous for the symphony and opera Matilda of Shabran, a playful melodrama in two acts after being forgotten in the 1900s, has begun to circulate through the Pesaro production.
