Thessaloniki – Minister of Economic Development, Carlo Calenda, spoke yesterday in Thessaloniki at the launch ceremony for the new Trans Adriatic Pipeline works (TAP) in the presence of the greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras, governments representatives of the countries concerned and the top positions of the European Commission. The new pipeline will start from the greek-Turkish border passing through Greece and Albania to terminate in Italy in the Province of Lecce, and will allow the natural gas supply from the Caspian Sea (Azerbaijan) to Italy and Europe. “The choice of the TAP pipeline is strategic for Italy: improving the security of supply, will contribute to the diversification of sources and routes of gas provenance and will increase the range and number of suppliers. Its realization – said the Minister Calenda – will achieve an increasingly competitive market and integrated with that of Europe. ” (9Colonne)
