(25 May 2016) Cooperation between Italy and Myanmar is enriched by a new element: Ye Ko Naing, a young Burmese student from the Hospitality and Catering Training Academy (HCTA) Yangon, begins his studies at Alma, the International School Italian Cuisine. The HCTA is one of the projects implemented by the Daw Khin Kyi Foundation, established by Aung San Suu Kyi in memory of his mother. Ye Ko Naing will be hosted at the Palace of Colorno, in Italy, where he can attend the International Culinary Programme of the renowned Italian cooking school, thanks to effective ties with Alma, the Italian Embassy to Yangon, Senator Albertina Soliani and Giuseppe Malpeli’s Italy-Myanmar Association (Associazione Italia-Birmania). “Ever since I visited the HCTA in recent months, I immediately thought of a collaboration with Italian excellence in the field of food” said Ambassador Pier Giorgio Aliberti, who sends his best wishes to the young apprentice chef. “Thanks to dialogue with Senator Soliani and Giuseppe Malpeli’s Italy-Myanmar Association, we managed to involve Alma and within a few months the project has become a reality. I believe this is a very promising start in an area of great interest for us and which I have found to be a very strong focus here in Mynamar”. (Red)
