(31 May 2016) An intense programme of celebrations offered by the Italian Embassy in Oslo on the occasion of Republic Day. The anniversary was celebrated in residence on May 27 at the presence of Giorgio Novello who recalled how “exactly seventy years ago, our country finally returned to the voting stations polls deciding its future institutional structure freely in the referendum of 2 June 1946, electing the same day the Constituent Assembly and, for the first time in its history inviting women to vote. ” A triple anniversary “of absolute importance – continued Novello – celebrated even here in Norway at a time when relations with Italy are cordial and intense thanks to the complete success of the state visit of King Harald and Queen Sonja in April to Rome and Milan. ” The celebrations kicked off with the Maetro Peter Simon, Opera tenor of Oslo, who performed with piano accompaniment by the pianist Dorina Komani, the aria “You on the lip of the visionaries” (Tu sul labbro dei veggenti) from Nabucco by Giuseppe Verdi. Verdi, as Novello recalled, is the “soundtrack” of our Risorgimento. He then delivered the Diploma and commemorative Medal of the 70th anniversary of the Liberation to two Italians who were its protagonists and who have resided a long time in Norway: Marco Baù and Bruno Forcella. Ambassador Novello then presented the traveling event designed to bring Italian specialties to Norway during the year: seven stops in six different cities that will include dozens of events dedicated to the political, economic, cultural and social.
