(June 3, 2016) History is usually illustrious people, memorable battles, losers and winners. The history of Italian emigration is the story of the exodus of millions of people, that in the last two centuries have left the beautiful country due to poverty, ideals contrary to the status quo, to follow a dream of a better life. Many tragedies involved dozens workers, who sometimes had to play as cogs, strengthening the mafia or families and who were selling their children due to extreme poverty until only a few years ago: the emigrant or refugee life seems to have not been a lesson to anybody, today nor yesterday. To recount everything with great skill is the author of the book “The horde. When we were the Albanians” (L’orda. Quando gli Albanesi eravamo noi), Gian Antonio Stella, in the Bern Gymnasium’s Great Hall. The realization of this extraordinary book is supported by the result of a long collection of images and documentation. It ranges from the story of Italian emigration, not only in Europe but also towards America and in Australia. The Fellowship of the Waters, led by Gualtiero Bertelli’s accordion has been the musical interlude to the stories, remembering tunes that accompanied the Italians around the world.
