(June 7, 2016) The 2016 “Vivacissimo” festival reaches its fourth edition organised and almost entirely produced by the Italian Cultural Institute in Sydney. Sardinian musician from Palau, Paolo Angeli performs on June 9 at the Foundry 616, trendy venue on Harris Street in Ultimo. Angeli’s musical education comes from various experiences, varying from the ‘gallurese’ and ‘logudorese’ guitar and singing to rock, folk and jazz. Diversification of popular styles over the years, gives birth to a new musical style that experts define as “contamination”: compositions suspended between free jazz, folk noise, minimalist pop. Of particular interest is the instrument that Angeli plays, a traditional Sardinian guitar applying the use of a small bow and hammers and operating with special pedals. Angeli can count on collaborations with musicians like Pat Metheny, Fred Frith, Jon Rose, Carlo Actis Dato, Antonello Salis and Otomo Yoshide, to name a few of the best known. In his Australian tour, which saw him perform for the Melbourne Jazz Festival and the ICI, Angeli performs his “Sardinian Landscape” from his latest album S’U. The tour continues in Sydney on June 9 followed by a performance in Canberr’s Street Theatre thanks to the ICI and the Italian Embassy. He is accompanied by the renowned saxophonist in Australia, Mirko Guerrini in Sydney’s Foundry and Canberra. Guerrini is a composer and versatile musician and multi-instrumentalist, who has settled for some time in Australia. He has performed with Billy Cobham, Brian Auger, Mark Feldman, Stefano Bollani, Enrico Rava, Stefano Battaglia, Paul McCandless, Caetano Veloso, Hermeto, Pascoal Ivano Fossati and Giorgio Gaber. (Red)
