(July 4, 2016) Percussions, dance and rhythm: The Apulian group ‘Sule’ will make its debut in Portugal with the ‘pizzica’ from Salento. The group was invited by the Italian Embassy and by the Italian Cultural Institute in Lisbon. It will transport the public on a journey in the tradition of Salento. The first performance will be held on Thursday July 7 at 18:30 at the Embassy followed by the group’s performance at the Festival Sete Sóis Sete Luas in the Fábrica da Pólvora Park of Barcarena in Oreias (20km from Lisbon). The Festival has reached its 24th anniversary this year and takes place in 30 different cities in 12 different Mediterranean and Portuguese speaking countries, bringing into focus the peripheries of big cities in an intercultural dialogue. The festival was founded in 1993 under the sponsorship of the José Saramago Nobel Prize, honorary president of the Festival along with Dario Fo. ‘Sule’ (meaning ‘sun’ in the Salento dialect) is composed of Claudio Prima (accordion and vocals), Rachele Andrioli (vocals and tambourine), Morris Pellizzari (guitar), Matteo Resta (acoustic bass guitar), Vito de Lorenzi (drums and tambourine) and Stefania Mariano (dance). The aim to bring back to life the traditional Apulian atmosphere through popular music, taking the public back to the squares and courts where great popular festivals rich in music and dances including the ‘pizzica te core’, the courting dance in Salento, were once held.
