(July 5, 2016) The development of Italy’s and Russia’s relations (among possible scenarios and realistic secrets in the last 40 years), the political and economic history and the people who helped shape it. The USSR, the Vatican, the United States and Italy all from the point of view of a red cat. A cat born from Anton Antonov’s imagination. Anton, pseudonym of Antonio Fallico, has lived in Moscow for 30 years. “The Red Cat” is his second novel after “Perspettiva Lenin” (Feltrinelli 2010). The first Russian edition of his most recent novel was presented in recent days at the Italian Embassy in Moscow. Ambassadro Ragaglini, Fallico, Ambassador Yastrzhembsky, Director of the Russian National political and social history Archives Sorokin and translator Bystrova all attended the event at the Embassy. Fallico’s novel mixes history, fiction, espionage, politics. It reconstructs in a literary and fictitious key, certain events that have marked Italy’s history from the 1970s until the 1990s. Russia is a constant uniting theme of the novel. Events that lead up to the break of up the USSR also take up a large portion of Fallico’s novel. Ambassador Ragaglini recalls how this period characterised by the transformation of the communist movement in Italy and the soviet communism crisis, has deeply influenced the socio-political evolution in Italy and Russia. He also highlights, as confirmed in the author’s talk, the idea of a ‘betrayed communism’ as the key idea of the novel. Following the book’s presentation that was organised by Banca Intesa Russia, was a debate with the press and the present audience. (Red)
