Tripoli – In Libya “Nobody planned the next move. We are willing to help, we have a political dialogue going on, but we do not have foots on the ground in Libya. The Fayez Serraj Government has asked Europe for help training the coast guard and the Libyan navy and therefore, as Italy is in command of naval operations of Europe’s Sofia mission, we will take part in the training together with the other countries that will participate”. This is the statement by Minister of Defense, Roberta Pinotti. “This – continued Pinotti – is an important step to allow immigration control and vanquish human trafficking. I think that in the future we will have other training request to enable the Government to consolidate itself. Before the situation in Tripoli deteriorated, we were training the Libyan armed forces in Cassino, but that came to a halt. In recent weeks on Libyan request, our aircraft have carried some Libyan soldiers wounded in combat to Italy (to the Celio military hospital) for humanitarian reasons. ” (9Colonne)
