(25 July 2016) A yesteryear show and a debut destined to leave an impression in a new geographic setting. In recent days in Valletta the National Society of Historical Dance, chaired and directed by Nino Graziano Luca, took center stage for an extraordinary international event, “1800 Great Ballroom Dance – The Italian Dance in Malta,” the fourth after the successes in Astrakhan (Russia), Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), and in Vienna during the bicentennial of the Congress. Over a hundred dancers in historical costumes have opened the ball in the halls of the Casa del Commun Tesoro, built by the Knights of Malta to guard the Order trasure. “Our thanks to the Knights, the Italian Embassy in Valletta and Italian Institute of Culture in Malta, which sponsors the initiative – said Nino Graziano Luca – the National Society of Historical Dance is proud to give life to this event, especially after the designation of Valletta as the 2018 European capital of Culture”. A real debut, to the tune of a mixed repertoire of Italian and English music, and in the name of memorable figures for the island Maltese history, as the intellectual Michelangelo Refalo and composers Charles Camilleri and Paolino Vassallo, which has been remembered in the 160th anniversary fof his birth. Emotion came to a peak when the Company danced the Mazurka from “The Leopard” around the fountain in Piazza San Giorgio in front of Rai and Maltese TV cameras, in the presence of Minister of Culture Owen Bonnici, the mayor of Valletta Alexii Dingli, the President of the Chamber of Fashion of Malta Juliana Scerri Ferrante, invited by the director of the Italian Institute of Culture Salvatore Schirmo during the Grand Gala of Fashion and Culture.
