Al-Baha. It has been an intense week filled with meetings for Professsor Marcantonio Ruisi, the programme director for the Masters in Economics and Cultural Heritage Management at the University of Palermo. The Professor was invited by the Saudi government of the Al-Baha province where he met the Vice Governor Dr. Hamed Maleh AlShammari and, among others, three mayors of provincial territories and representatives of the sector who are interested in developing cultural heritage extremely rich in ancient fortresses and other historic buildings. Professor Ruisi has stated, “Al-Baha has extraordinary potential for the development of cultural tourism in any very unique area, characterised by its mountainous landscape rich in vegetation and mild temperatures that lends itself to support leisure tourism and hiking. I have visited all the main touristic sites and I have verified enormous infrastructural and restorative investments that the government is carrying out. What they need is to be filled with content and to make resources and various attractions available. Destination management needs to be planned and implemented on a more solid and efficient base”.
