(September 21, 2016) From angel of the hearth to managers in career. From wife and mother to undisputed leader. How the role and image of women have changed in the contemporary world? A book entitled “Twelve steps in history. The stages of women’s emancipation” seeks to answer this question. The book – sponsored by the Contemporary History Association – presents some of the major steps that have radically transformed the condition of modern women: books, political and administrative commitment, laws and judgments, experiences of struggle and protest, songs and magazines have done make a quantum leap to the woman, outlining a route full of obstacles and distortions, misunderstandings and complications, but still pointing in the direction of overcoming discrimination, inferiority and marginality that have long affected, and still affect, their journey through history. “Twelve steps in history” will be presented in the coming days in Berlin: the event – organized in collaboration with the University of Macerata – is on Wednesday, September 28 (from 19 to 20.30) at the Italian Institute of Culture of the city. The meeting will be attended by the editors and authors of the book Lidia Pupilli (University of Macerata), Marco Severini (University of Macerata), Ilaria Biagioli (University of Modena and Reggio Emilia). The debate with these scholars will be hosted by Silvia Cresti. (PO / red)
