(September 29, 2016) The documentary “Restoring the sky” is the story of an epic restoration, that of the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem. It is the story of a group of Italian restorers who worked from 2013 to the recovery and preservation of the Basilica, a World Heritage monument. The film will be screened Wednesday, October 5 at 19 at the Cinematheque in Tel Aviv: The event is organized by the Italian Institute of Culture of the Israeli city, in collaboration with the Film Archive and the firm Attridge, leader of the restoration project. The screening will be attended by the director Tommaso Santi. “Not only do we tell the restoration and the context in which it occurs – says Santi -. The beauty of this place goes well, we live in this great harmony, paradoxical, given that the conflict between the different denominations that had made it a difficult restoration lasted for centuries. None of those who work there have the presumption and pride of those who know to make history, but all feel grateful to have participated in this work that goes far beyond the pay. ” This major undertaking, involving some 60 companies and 170 people, mostly Italians that has relocated to Bethlehem to put to use complex technologies, study skills and numerous professional skills, has led to the solution of water seepage, the cleaning and restoration of the mosaics, the analysis and mapping of over one million and 600 thousand mosaic tiles, and discovering under the plaster of an angel never seen before. And it is just the beginning of an enormous amount of discoveries and studies still underway. (Red)
