(28 October, 2016) Calabria, Basilicata and Umbria. Italy has captivated the attention of the Greek photographer, Jenny Lykourezou who defines her trips as “photographic pilgrimages”. She photographs the beauty of her “destinations” that have fascinated or surprised her the most. Among her destinations is Matera: one of the most ancient cities in the world, known as “the city of stones” declared as World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1993. The Italian Cultural Institute of Athens will pay tribute to Matera through the artist’s photographs. The ICI has in fact organised an exhibition that will be inaugurated November 11 at 19:00 at the OKTO studio in Thessaloniki. On the occasion of the exhibition opening, there will also be music and storytelling: musician Georgia Sylaiou will describe the city of Matera that she came to know through her concerts. “Jenny Lykourezou’s gaze is an addition to the one of many other photographer’s that have passed through our city, breathing in its spirit, magic, and the atmosphere that have been a part of Matera for 10,000 years and that are renewed with every gaze” underlines Salvatore Adduce, Mayor of Matera.
