(November 2, 2016) Five hundred years have passed since the publication of the first edition of Orlando Furioso by Ludovico Ariosto: the poem that, as Italo Calvino said “refuses to start, and refuses to end”, continues to raise questions and attention in its readers. On the occasion, experts from all across Europe will gather at the University of Copenhagen for a day of international studies dedicated to the chivalrous poem. Its multifaceted structure, in fact, its polycentric character and in eternal motion, the plurality of themes, make it an extraordinarily timely poem while maintaining its roots in the historical context in which it was generated, while its publishing success continues to record editions and translations in all languages (the latest Danish translation edited by Lene Waage Petersen was published in 2014). The conference – scheduled on Friday November 18 – is organized by the University of Copenhagen and the Danish capital by the Italian Institute of culture. The key-note speaker of the day, free and open to all, will be Professor Stefano Jossa (Royal Holloway University of London) and Professor Serena Pezzini (Scuola Normale Superiore of Pisa). (Red)
