Zurich. Gigi Buffon is among the 23 nominees for “Best FIFA Men’s Player 2016”, the new title established by FIFA to award the best footballer of the year. This year, the captain of the Italian national team is the only Italian footballer nominated for the Ballon d’Or. The award relies on 50% of votes by specialist commissioners and captains of national teams and the remaining 50% is left to fans and a team of more than 200 media representatives. Voting closes on November 22 and a short-list of 3 footballers will be announced on December 2 and the winner will be announced on January 9 in Zurich. (9colonne)
