(November 30, 2016) The Italian Cooperation has prepared to intervene with €2.4 million for Sudan. This was confirmed by Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mario Giro in a Facebook post: “I am promptly responding to requests for help coming from Sudan by announcing a new project that will complement the work already done by the Italian Cooperation. The focus of this extraordinary new initiative is that of food safety, nutrition and protection of refugees and migrants “. Giro explains that the initiative “will contribute to strengthening the resilience of local communities by contributing to the management of natural resources and improvement of living conditions, while supporting the protection of refugees, displaced persons, migrants and minorities. It will seek to improve the living conditions in the intervention areas by providing assistance to basic services (water, health, education, supply of capital goods, and temporary accommodation) in favour of the most vulnerable groups of the population. The geographical focus will be in the Eastern regions, North Darfur and Khartoum- those most affected by migration “.
