Brussels. For the first time, quadriplegic or paralyzed people have regained the ability to carry out daily tasks such as eating and drinking on their own. This was possible thanks to a robotic wearable exoskeleton with a non-invasive interface with the nervous system. The demonstration of the system’s functionality has been successfully accomplished by a group of European scientists, coordinated by Italian bioengineers Nicola Vitiello and Maria Chiara Carrozza from the BioRobotics Institute of the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna of Pisa, and is described in the first issue of the “Science Robotics” in Science group which published a long detailed article about the research project to which research from the University of Tübingen (Germany) and the Guttmann Institute (Spain) participated led by Professor Surjo Soekadar and Dr. Eloy Opisso respectively.
