(January 20, 2017) “Duel in the ghetto: The challenge of a jew against the Nazi gangs in occupied Rome” (Rizzoli) tells the true story of the Pacifico Di Consiglio and its war against the leader of the fascist gangs: a dramatic story of intrigue and accusations in the days of racial persecution. The author, Maurizio Molinari, will present his latest book, written with Amedeo Osti Guerrazzi, at the Italian Institute of Culture in Tel Aviv in an evening – scheduled on Saturday, January 28 – organized by the IIC in collaboration with the Italian Embassy. In Rome Moretto is still remembered: his real name is Pacifico Di Consiglio, and in 1943 during the Nazi occupation he is the only Roman jew that remains in town to hunt down his tormentors. The life of the amateur boxer Moretto, like that of many Roman Jews, changes after 1938. But unlike others, Moretto finds a way to rebel. The granddaughter of Luigi Roselli, one of the most ruthless and dangerous Italian collaborators of the Nazis, falls in love with him and thanks to the information of the young woman, he challenges the bands commanded by Colonel Kappler, head of the German police in Rome. Arrested twice, he always manages to escape enacting tricks and other intrigues, continuing to fight hundreds of spies, informers and fascist cops. The meeting will be held in Italian. (Red)
