(February 3, 2017) Astrophysicists at the University of Udine participate in the construction of the largest gamma ray telescope of the Northern Hemisphere, the Large Size Telescope (Lst), on the island of La Palma, in the Canary, which will be the focus of an international conference from February 6 to 10 in Udine (Antonini palace). Thanks to the activities of the telescope, scientists can better understand the origin and composition of the universe. The conference, entitled “Cherenkov Telescope Array – Large Size Telescope Meeting”, is organized by the Department of Mathematics, Computer and Physical Sciences of the Udine University and the National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN). About sixty scientists from around the world are expected. The research team of the University of Udine engaged in the enterprise, coordinated by Diego Cauz, Barbara De Lotto and Alessandro De Angelis, is responsible, in particular, for the optical instruments for the detection and for light sensors, in cooperation with Italian industries.
