Cairo – The University of Pavia presents for the first time the results of studies on an exceptional find: an Egyptian mummy, deprived of his bandages, but in perfect condition. On March 11 it will be open in the new Egyptian Corner housed in the Archaeological Museum of the University. In 1824 the Cabinet of human anatomy at the University of Pavia received the gift of an Egyptian mummy coming from Cairo. In 1933 it passed to the Museum of Natural History, and then in the 60’s it was placed in a tower of the Visconti Castle of Pavia. In 2013 the mummy was the focus of a series of careful research with the most modern medical and forensic investigation techniques. The aim is to restore its identity, discover its age and the period in which it lived. Therefore it was submitted to computed tomography (CT) at the San Matteo hospital in Pavia and samples were taken for molecular analysis, including that of the C14 carbon radio. The research on the mummy was organized with the support of the Lombardy Region. (9colonne)
