Washington. A multidisciplinary team of researchers from the Italian Institute of Technology recently published a study that describes for the first time the internal synaptic structure (contact between two nerve cells) on the nanoscale in the “Journal of Neuroscience”. The researchers have observed that the synapsis that ‘learns’ not only increases in size but also changes its internal structure at the nanometric level. They have been able to see this thanks to advanced optical microscopy techniques (super resolution). (9colonne)
