London. A study by a team of researchers from the University of Bari titled “Highly oriented photosynthetic reaction centres generate a proton gradient in synthetic protocells” was recently published on the journal “PNAS”. The study is focused on the generation of simplified artificial organisms (protocells) that are capable to autonomously generate energy necessary to their survival. It is situated in the field of avant-garde research aimed at synthesising artificial cells by combining biochemical and biophysical approaches. (9colonne)
