(2 May 2017) “A fascinating mix of great Central European influences”. The Times newspaper praises Trieste as both a tourist destination and a city to invest in. Trieste is “a little like a mini Vienna” writes Liz Rowlinson in “A haven for sailors and coffee drinkers (Trieste)”. But not only: “Four miles of abandoned harbour warehouses could be a dream for a real estate developer with large pockets,” the article continues. “The leading London newspaper has made a timely and effective portrait: Trieste is beautiful, cosmopolitan and seductive, it is a city for connoisseurs” was the governor of Friuli Venezia Giulia Debora Serracchiani’s comment. “In a time when the quality of tourist destinations is increasingly sought after and praised, Trieste finds itself in a category that – thanks to the variety of things it has to offer – can meet the demands of a brief visit, a longer and more reflective vacation, or even those Anglo-Saxons who choose to make the Adriatic their home”. For Serracchiani, “there is still a great future for Trieste as a relaxing and people friendly city – the Karst Plateau comes to mind – which I hope will soon be reachable with the historical Opicina tram”.
