Lima – From the coastal desert of Peru, already known for holding extraordinary fossils like that of the Leviathan, the remains of the oldest whale ancestor have risen: within the oldest rocks of 36 million years ago, was discovered the skeleton of a baleen whale that will help to shed light on the origin and evolution of whale and whale ancestors. The discovery was made by an international research group of paleontologists and geologists from the universities of Pisa and Camerino and the natural history museums of Paris, Brussels and Lima and was published in the international journal Current Biology.
