Vatican City – “You have a great responsibility to be examples of loyalty, honesty, concord and humanity.” With these words Pope Francis exhorted to be an example for the youngster the players of Lazio and Juventus, received in the Vatican on the eve of the Coppa Italia final. The meeting was also attended by the Minister for Sport, Luca Lotti, the President of Coni Giovanni Malagò, the Figc Chairman and the Serie A League Commissioner Carlo Tavecchio, the General Director of the Serie A League Marco Brunelli, the chairmen of the two teams and the game’s referees. The Holy Father recalled “the importance of sport in our time”, recalling how football can and should convey values: “Those who are considered champions become easily reference figures, so each game is a test for balance, self-mastery, compliance with rules. Who, with his own behavior, knows how to prove all this becomes an example for his admirers.” (9colonne)
