London – A sheer drop of wine consumption in Britain, with the average price of a bottle that has reached 6.3 euros. Coldiretti said in the context of the release of retail trade data, on the basis of Wine and Spirit Trade Association (Wsta) data, pointing out that as a result of a constant price increase since Brexit, wine in Britain has never been so expensive because of unfavorable exchange rates but also for the increase in alcohol taxation. Coldiretti points out that on English tables, wine, which is largely imported, is the first victim of the chaos caused by brexit and election because of the sterling record devaluation that has made it increasingly inaccessible. This behavior also weighs on Made in Italy exports with a 7% drop in Italian wine sales on the basis of Istat data showing the first two months of 2017. In 2016 Britain – said Coldiretti – was the first market in the World of Italian sparkling wine with 30% of exported bottles, almost 1 out of 3. Now – Coldiretti says – the trend has been reversed and exports are also declining for the increase in excise duty on all wines and Sparkling wines and in February they were up 9% for Prosecco according to the Wine and Spirit Trade Association (Wsta).
