Brazzaville – Italian Cooperation has pledged 300,000 euros in favor of UNHCR to respond to the dramatic humanitarian emergency in the Kasai Region in the Democratic Republic of Congo. With these resources, which are added to the 1,100,000 euros contribution provided through bilateral channels to support the health sector in the country over the 2015-2016 period, action will be taken in the field of health, food safety, education and promotion of resilience of vulnerable refugee populations. “More than a million civilians are currently displaced by the Democratic Republic of Congo and more than 30,000 have been flooded in neighboring Angola: the two open fields of the Angolan Government in Lunda Norte are already at its peak”, said the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Angelino Alfano, who also stressed that “the intervention of our Cooperation is aimed at alleviating the burden on the Angolan Government in providing assistance and protection to the refugee population.” (9colonne)
