Beirut – The International Center for Advanced Mediterranean Agronomic Crops (Ciheam) in Bari, will work to improve the quality of the olive oil production chain in Lebanon, on request of the Italian and Lebanese Ministry of Agriculture. The cost of the project is 1.5 million euros and will be a new step after the two introductions already completed in recent months: Lebanon Oil 1, which provided technical and socio-economic support to the olive grower families in the olive trees marginal regions in Lebanon; Lebanon Oil 2, which has set up an initiative to combat plant diseases that threaten oil crops and bring the quality of Lebanon oil in line with international standards. With the third project, Lebanon Oil 3, the work will purely focus on the agronomic aspect and on the improvement of the organoleptic qualities of Lebanese olive oil. (9colonne)
