Jurmala. One year after the Olympic silver medal won in Rio2016, Daniele Lupo and Paolo Nicolai continue to mark the pages of beach volleyball with Italy’s colours. In fact, the two Italians were confirmed European champions (title won last season in Switzerland) surpassing Aleksandrs Samoilovs and Janis Smedins from Jurmala, Latvia. For Lupo and Nicolai – who won the final in two sets (21-16, 23-21) – this is the third continental championships after Cagliari 2014 and Bienne 2016. A confirmation that was received from the strong Latvian duo who climbed the highest step on the European podium in 2015 who only briefly interrupted the Italian winning streak. (9Colonne)
