Rome – On the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the tragic execution of Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti and 40 years after their complete rehabilitation, the Director General for Italians abroad of the Foreign Ministry, Luigi Vignali, confirms the constant support of the consular network in favor of Italians detained abroad and the strong commitment to protect victims of errors or misdemeanors. “It is our priority mission to assist Italians in the world, no one excluded, even if they are in prison and regardless of the circumstances of their detention”, Vignali said. In 2016, the consular offices of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation provided assistance to 2515 Italians awaiting trial abroad, as well as 689 convicted and 70 extradited fellow citizens.
