Montreal. In the first six months of 2017, Canadian wine imports from abroad amounted to 208 million litres (+ 2.5% over the same period of the previous year) for about 1.1 billion Canadian dollars, of which 40 million litres were imported from Italy (+ 16%) for a value of $235 million. This is what the ICE office in Montreal has communicated after compiling data published by Statistics Canada, the Canadian National Statistical Office. In the first half of 2017, sparkling wines accounted for 6.7 million litres of wine (+ 14% over the same period in the previous year) for a total of $77 million, including 3 million litres imported from Italy (+ 19%) for a value of $25 million. Italy, therefore, recorded the most significant growth for sparkling wines in the first half of the year, thanks to a wide range of wines, first of all prosecco, at an affordable price. (9Colonne)
