New York – Dr. Marco Tatullo, a precarious researcher of the Department of Orthodontics, qualified for Associate Professorship but does not yet hold any university roles, won the prestigious “Robert Frank Award” award for base research in the “senior” category. Tatullo presented a dissertation titled “Human Periapical-cysts Mesenchymal Stem Cells Differentiated into Dopaminergic Neuromelanin-Producing Neurons”. “This research – explains Dr. Tatullo, lays the foundations for the reutilisation of part of the dental cysts, a common pathological finding destined to be stored in biological waste, to find stem cells that will then turn into dopaminergic neurons capable of producing melanin, exactly the same neurons that are attacked by Parkinson’s Disease: in this way, we can think of a future use of these experimental models in innovative therapeutic trials”.
