(September 28, 2017) “Do your duty at all costs”. The phrase recalls one of Alcide De Gasperi’s most famous teachings that the president of the Autonomous Province of Trento, Ugo Rossi, wanted to remember by attending this afternoon in Buenos Aires at the conference organized by the National Memory Archive in memory of Giovanni Falcone Paolo Borsellino, 25 years after the tragic death. The meeting with the Italian ambassador Teresa Castaldo was also attended by the provincial council member Lucia Maestri, on mission these days in South America along with the Trentino delegation and some of the Trentino counseling offices. The fight against mafia becomes the paradigm of the rejection of any form of pollution of democracy. De Gasperi therefore becomes a symbol as well as the two judges because it is precisely through the exercise of a free justice that the democratic ideal is defended. “Each of us,” commented Rossi, “has a duty to do: that is to be a serious citizen, a goal that is achieved also by respecting the rules, from simple ones, like giving priority to pedestrians on the strips, or not throw garbage on the road. It is a cultural issue first, and it is only by growing this culture that even serious phenomena such as mafia can be eradicated. ” Recalling the visit to ESMA, the museum born on the site of the largest clandestine detention, torture and extermination center during the last Argentine military government (1976-1983), Rossi added, “We saw how Argentina’s disgraceful tragedy has given the world a great example: do not leave room for revenge, but rely on justice and its rules, the same justice that Falcone and Borsellino have given their lives for, just so we can look to the future with confidence. “(red)
