Parigi – Can the memory of a horror be attributed to qualities generally attributed to monumentality, such as uniqueness, statism, hierarchy, thus putting itself to the test of what it commemorates? On the occasion of the release of the two essays, “Monuments par défaut. Architecture et mémoire depuis la Shoah” by Adachiara Zevi, published for the editions of the journal “Conférence”, thanks to the support of the Foundation for the Memorial, and “Architecture of the indelible. Two memorials of the Shoah. Milano and Drancy” by Jacques Gubler published for the editions Christian Marinotti; the Italian Institute of Culture in Paris and the Holocaust Memorial organise a meeting to reflect and debate on this theme. The event will be held on October 11th at 19:30 at the Paris Holocaust Memorial. In his essay, Adachiara Zevi illustrates the fundamental importance of memory, which must never become inert, while Jacques Gubler compares the Shoah Memorial of Milan, located under the central station, to that of Drancy. The two authors will talk with the architect Roger Diener, the historian Pierre Nora, and the artist Esther Shaley-Gerz; the debate will be animated by Henry Rouso, research director of the CNRS.
