Istanbul. In collaboration with the Puppet Festival, now in its 21st edition, the Italian Institute of Culture in Istanbul presents Pinocchio, by the La Bottega Teatrale company. The show is inspired by the written text of Pinocchio by Carmelo Bene, combined with the Pinocchio for television by Luigi Comencini to fit into the parameters of Carlo Collodi, the author of Pinocchio. A very original set-up to be seen. Giuseppe Cardascio kept Comencini’s poetry, the delicacy of the language but at the same time the strong interpretation of Carmelo Bene as well as the melancholic foundations that blend with the extraordinary comedy of the boy, Pinocchio. The director states: “Our Pinocchio, like that of Carmelo Bene, represents the incapacity, refusal, and impossibility to grow. Pinocchio is the eternal child that is in each of us and that Carmelo Bene has always wanted to keep in his work. A Pinocchio combining Bene, Collodi, and Comencini, thich reads between the lines of Carmelo Bene’s writing and re-works the scenes with the use of puppetry “. Pinocchio will be staged at the Institute on October 30th at 19:00 (with free admission) and again on October 31st)at the Aksanat Istiklal Cultural Centre at 11am (for a fee). (9Colonne)
