Brussels. Tuesday, October 16 at 19:00, the Italian Institute of Culture in Brussels will host the conference “Italian Language and Europe”, with Massimo Arcangeli and Giuliana Schiavi. Italian needs a linguistic policy that allows it to compete with other languages, English especially, in an international scenario where the confrontation is sometimes very stark. Hence the need for a manifesto, developed by points, which could form the basis for a series of operational interventions in the direction of a serious policy to promote and protect the Italian language in Europe (but also elsewhere). Arcangeli, linguist, sociologist of communication, literary critic, and writer, is a professor at the University of Cagliari. He collaborates with national newspapers such as La Stampa, Il Manifesto, and La Repubblica. Schiavi, translator and translation theorist, teaches at the Higher School for Linguistic Mediators of Vicenza and is the vice president of the Unicampus San Pellegrino foundation. The event is occasioned by the 18th edition of the Italian Language Week in the World, under the High Patronage of the President of the Italian Republic. (9Colonne)
