(9 feb) – All her life is dedicated to philosophy ethics and economics, research and study.
Benedetta Giovanola is a young researcher in the field of Applied Athics at the University of Macerata. “New goals and the will to improve everyday” is her life philosophy and, so far, thanks to her commitment, persistence and desire to learn, she has achieved a lot: she teaches at international level, taking courses in the universities of Leuven and Nijmegen. And she is about to start a new important experience: for her scientific expertise, she has been called – the only one in Italy – to join the organizing committee of an Athens-Beijing international conference, which gets together scholars from America, New Zealand, Singapore, Canada, China and other European countries. The organizers of the conference – which will be held next June in Athens, under the aegis of the Greek University of Economics and Business and the University of International Trade and Economy of China – have known the Giovanola’s work from international magazines and journals: “Meeting the Chinese has been very rewarding to me. I tried to do my job in a rigorous and passionate way – says Benedetta – but it was definitely a challenge: for the conference, I have read a lot about Chinese culture and about the way it influences business practices and, in particular, models of leadership and management. Along with attention to academic studies, I have understood the way in which the Chinese culture reflects habits, traditions, ways of relating, deep respect for aspects we consider formal but have a substantial importance in that culture”. Giovanola, who is always “looking for new motivations”, is the only Italian winner of the Helen Potter Award in 2005, conferred by the Association for Social Economics to the author of the best article published in the ‘Review of Social Economy’: “The recognition of the international scientific community means that your work is appreciated and valued in a context of excellence, and you can share your ideas and create a dialogue. The Helen Potter Award was an important goal, which allowed me to forge relationships with the scientific community, especially the United States”. The Italian researcher is among the contributors of the Nietzsche-Wörterbuch, published by De Gruyter: “Collaborations are always an opportunity to share the results of a research with colleagues and specialists from around the world and for subjecting them to a constructive critic”. “I think – she concluded – these goals could be achieved through a rigorous, constant, passionate and humble, and it requires a lot of energy. You must be willing to sacrifice years. It is impossible to do such a thing unless you have a passion and a dedication to help you overcome every obstacle, but also you can not mange it if you lose that humility which allows you to constantly improve yourself, makes you aware that whatever you did, however excellent it may have been considered, can always be done in a better way, because you can always do better. ” (Gil)
