(Feb 20) – The region of Basilicata is a land of wine, with a wide and appreciated production: ‘Aglianico del Vulture’, ‘Terre dell’ Alta Val d’ Agri’, ‘Doc Matera’, ‘Grottino’. The region, which received the IGT denomination in wines, will attend the Pro Wein in Germany, a leading international fair for wine and liquors from March 4th to 6th in Dusseldorf. The ‘Consorzio di Aglianico del Vulture’, ‘Cantina di Venosa’, and other ten companies from Basilicata will be part of the mission, coordinated by Unioncamere, the Region of Basilicata and Forim, special agency of the Potenza Chamber of Commerce. The motto of the Italian delegation will be “Il Sud di qualità (the Southern quality)”. “ProWein is an important business platform for Germany and Northern Europe – said the president of the Potenza Chamber of Commerce, Pasquale Lamorte – but is coming out as a showcase for wine around the world. In the 2011 edition there were about 40,000 visitors from all major European markets, from North America and Asia. This is a business opportunities for producers from Basilicata, in a very delicate moment for agriculture, and during a crisis that invests even the wine-producing sector”. To make the mission more practical and appealing, the Italian Chamber of Commerce for Germany and Forim have selected a group of buyers – on the basis of each company’s profile – for a series of be-to-be meetings. The representation of Basilicata at the Pro Wein includes the ‘Consorzio di Tutela dell’Aglianico del Vulture’ (Rionero), the ‘Cantina di Venosa’, the companies ‘Terra dei re’ (Rionero in Vulture) Cantine Cerrolongo (Nova Siri), ‘Soc. Agr. Ditaranto’ (Montescaglioso), ‘Azienda agricola Musto Carmelitano’ (Maschito), Cantine Madonna delle Grazie (Venosa), ‘Lucania Sas’ di Piccin Fabrizio (Venosa), ‘Azienda agricola Bonifacio’ (Venosa), ‘Azienda agricola Ofanto’ (Rionero), ‘Lagala vitcoltori in Vulture’ (Venosa ), ‘Agricola Basilisco’ (Barile), ‘Vigne del Vulture’ (Melfi). WINE EXPORT: A NEW RECORD WITH OVER 4 BILLION EUROS
The exports of Italian wine in the world have passed for the first time the record amount of 4 billion euros, up 13% over last year. This is what emerges from a Coldiretti analysis on the basis of the trends reported by ISTAT in the first eleven months of 2011. “Wine has become the most important agricultural export, with more than and half – Coldiretti remarks – sold in the European Union countries, with Germany and the UK (+10%) as leaders. Around a quarter of foreign sales is in the United States (+16% in 2011). The real surprise – Coldiretti says – comes from Asian countries and China, where wine exports have almost doubled (+80%), while they continue to grow in Russia (+16%). A good omen for the 2011 vintage that – Coldiretti states – reached an historical low of around 40 million hectoliters. As a result of this fall – Coldiretti concludes – Italy has lost the primacy of wine production in favor of France, jumped over with 50.2 million hectoliters (+11% compared to 2010)”.
