(Feb. 28) – After the success of the last edition, the Italian Cultural Institute and Cinecitta Luce have announced the return of the Italian Film Festival in March 2012 under the title “Cinema Made In Italy”. The 2011 edition opened with a concert at Cadogan Hall by the Italian Oscar-winning composer Nicola Piovani. The Festival showcased all that was new and exciting in Italian film and saw appearances by actors such as Toni and Peppe Servillo, Kim Rossi Stuart, Luigi Lo Cascio and Paolo Briguglia, as well as the directors Mario Martone and Stefano Incerti. In this new edition, films will be screened in two locations, at the Ciné Lumiere and in the in the Institute itself, with cinematic evenings devoted to Italian films based around sport, in honour of the Olympic year. Eight films have been chosen for the festival by Paolo Mereghetti, film critic for “Il Corriere della Sera”, and Adrian Wootton, Chief Executive of Film London. As well as the many screenings there will be other events, including a tribute to master director Vittorio De Seta who died last year. (Ram/Peg)

VITTORIO DE SETA, POET OF REALITY
Vittorio De Seta is considered one the father of the Italian documentary films and one of the great realists of the 60s. He started his career in the first Fifties, as assistant director of Mario Chiari, in an episode of “Amori di mezzo”. In 1954 he became assistant of Jean-Paul Le Chanois in “Vacanze d’amore”. In that period he discovered the passion for documentaries, focused on everyday life of people from Sicily and Sardinia. In 1961 he made his debut on the big screens with “Banditi a Orgosolo” (Bandits of Orgosolo), his first feature-lenght movie, written with his wife, that won the Best First Work in the Venice Film Festival.
