(Mar. 27) – Trenitalia captures Europe. The Italian company has been awarded in Brussels for its SIPAX platform, that proved to be the best way of planning European travel. The prestigious award was collected by Ernesto Sicilia, Director of Strategic Planning, during a ceremony that took place at the presence of the European Commission for Transport. Thousands of users, through electronic voting, were the judges of the competition, organized by European Commission Vice President, Siim Kallas. Trenitalia has won the first place ex-aequo with the system IDOS, run by a private company in Czech Republic. The SIPAX platform, the best among over 28 participating systems, up to now has allowed millions of customers to buy train tickets and plan their trip, integrating rail routes with those made by coaches, buses, ferries. The platform works side by side with the ViaggiaTreno system that monitors traffic in real time and then changes travel options based on the traffic conditions. (Ram/Peg)
