(May 18) The book “Se ti abbraccio non aver paura” (Don’t be afraid if I embrace you, Marcos y Marcos) is at the top of the best seller charts on the Internet and in bookstores. The author Fulvio Ervas tells the story of Franco and Andrea, father and son, who decide to go on a motorcycle journey through the United States and South America. The son is an autistic boy and it is a real story, heard by Fulvio Ervas in person. “An important part of this novel, right before writing, was listening to the voice of Franco for almost a year. He has been very good at communicating his feelings and sensations, as well as suggestions,” says Ervas. “Reality, as we know, is full of details and events, and to narrate it we have to apply filters and translate the story with its own language and sensibility,” continues Ervas explaining the process that led him to write the novel. The storyteller of the novel, written in first person, seems to be Franco himself and, as Fulvio Ervas says, it wasn’t easy at all: “There was no other chance except writing the story in first person. The problem was to keep the right distance and, at the same time, being the father of Andrea without feeling overwhelmed by emotions.” It really surprises the incredible ability of Andre, the son, to communicate through writing.”The words written on sheets that of Andrew’s father brings with him while traveling are a way to remind the reader that the principal issue of autism is the communication between two different worlds. For a parent, dealing with and autistic mind means to live and move in a complicated world, where courage and strenght are necessary,” concludes Ervas. (Naf/Red)
