(Jul. 17) – The brand Fiat recorded particularly strong results in Spain, with year-over-year sales up 21.6% for June and 5.2% for the first six months. This result has to be read considering the general economic crisis: the European passenger car market (EU27+EFTA) was down 1.7% over the prior year to just over 1,254,000 vehicles. With the Italian market recording a particularly significant contraction for the month (-24.4%), sales for Fiat Group totaled nearly 80,000 units representing a European market share of 6.4%. Officials says that, year-to-date, Fiat Group has sold 456,000 units with share at 6.6%. Despite the overall decline in market demand, which was particularly evident in Fiat brand’s core city car segment, the Panda and 500 were once again the two best-selling A segment cars. Sales of the Panda exceeded 19,000 units, representing a 10% year- over-year increase and a 16.2% segment share. Sales of the 500 totaled 14,000 units, making it the second best-selling model in the A segment with a share of 11.9%. The Punto remains firmly among the top 10 B-segment models with a 4.45% share. Results were also positive for the compact Sedici SUV and the Freemont, which both ranked among the leaders in their respective segments. (Red)
