(Jul. 20) – After Hollywood and Australia, the Giffoni Film Festival flies to Brazil. It has been signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Giffoni Experience, Regione Campania and the Municipality of São Paulo, for a partnership that will be sealed in January 2013 with the Brazilian edition of the Giffoni Film Festival. The site chosen for the event is the Memorial da América Latina auditorium, designed by architect Oscar Niemeyer, a cultural center in the heart of São Paulo. “An exchange – says Claudio Gubitosi, founder of the Festival – that makes us proud. In its long history, the Festival has involved 52 nations, but the next one in Brazil will be a special appointment, in a particular moment for the Latin American country.” Satisfaction was expressed by Caterina Miraglia, Councillor for Culture of Regione Campania: “The Giffoni Film Festival is a glory to our region, and this is proved by the growing interest that it stirs abroad. It’s a reality that needs to be strongly supported.” “A festival with a long life – said Thiago Lobo, Councillor for Sport and Youth of the Municipality of São Paulo – an important cultural moment for a city with 6 million people of Italian origin. We hope to bring to São Paulo the spriti of the Festival, an initiative that we want to repeat every year. We will not only create filmmakers or cinephiles – concluded Lobo – but better people.” The Brazilian edition of the Italian Festival will be the same of the Italian one. The young people of each State will be asked to judge the films in competition and will also have the opportunity to meet international stars. (Red)
