(Jul. 25) – On loan from the Capitoline Museums in Rome, the spectacular “Lion Attacking a Horse” will be on view at the Getty Villa from August 10th, 2012 to February 4th, 2013. Presented for the first time outside Rome, where it has not been on public view since 1925, the sculpture will be the centerpiece of a special installation that traces its history from antiquity to the modern era and showcases recent conservation work undertaken in Rome. Part of “The Dream of Rome,” a project initiated by the Mayor of Rome Gianni Alemanno to exhibit timeless masterpieces from the city of Rome in the United States, the installation will also include related works from the Getty Museum and Getty Research Institute’s collections. To strengthen cultural relationships between Italy and united States and promote tourism in Rome, on August 7th Mayor Alemanno will attend the annual Convention of the Knight of Columbus and, in the next few days, will meet the Mayor of Los Angeles Antonio Villaraigosa and entrepreneurs from the entertainment industry.
