(Aug. 6) – Thanks to its cutting-edge hybrid solar-geothermal Stillwater plant, Enel Green Power North America was shortlisted among the finalists for the GEA Honors 2012, which will take place in Sacramento on August 7 and 8. At the event, companies and individuals will be acknowledged for having significantly contributed, last year, to technological advance, economic development and environmental protection. Within the category ‘technology advance’, which includes companies or individuals that have helped develop cutting-edge technology greatly contributing to the growth of geothermal industry, the GEA included Enel Green Power North America among its finalists: in the US State of Nevada, it built the first solar-geothermal plant in the world, which integrates the Stillwater Geothermal plant with 89,000 polycristalline photovoltaic modules. The technology that was used could help develop projects that would have otherwise been ‘stand alone’ geothermal or solar facilities. This way, it has created the conditions for the implementation of projects that are more technologically or economically productive. (red)
