(Aug. 8) – Ansaldo STS, a Finmeccanica Company, has been selected, within the consortium led by LSIS, by KRNA (Korea Rail Network Authority) as the supplier of the train control system for the Honam high speed line, which connects Osong and Gwangju Songjeong, to be completed by December 2014. The value of this contract for Ansaldo STS is approximately 40 million euros. The Ansaldo STS scope of the contract encompasses the design of ATC and IXL systems, validation, tests and commissioning, RAMS, training and maintenance tools. Ansaldo STS will provide its SEI (Integrated Train Control System) with TVM, vital NS1 relays and Hot Box Detectors to equip the 174 km new line operation up to 300 km/h. The train control system transmits an optimized speed continuously to high speed trains for their safe operation within the speed limit of 300Km/H by taking account of the previous train’s location, the railway’s conditions, etc. The train control system to be introduced by this contract is an evolution of the technology applied to the Gyeongbu high speed line to integrate ATC functions with interlocking functions. The integration reduces interfaces between various sub systems and increases maintainability and reliability of the system. This system has been applied and operated on various high speed lines such as the HSL 5 (Mediterranean) 6 (East Europe) and 7 (Rhine-Rhône), on which the French TGV runs, and CTRL (Channel to London) in UK. ,Ansaldo STS supports the development of high speed technology in Korea since the very beginning with the Seoul-Daegu HSL and later with Daegu-Busan HSL in operation since 2010.
